In The Book Thief there are many acts of love that happen throughout the novel. Of all of the acts of love I think that the most powerful one is when Hans Hubermann publicly gives a jewish man who is marching by bread. The man crys into Hans’ ankles crying and thanking him, knowing the risk that Hans just took. Both men were whipped for what they had done. Love is not necessarily between two people who share a relationship, it can be any great act of kindness or compassion. Hans risks his own life to help someone who desperately needs it. This shows how much of a loving and caring character Hans is and how he puts others above himself. This to me is the greatest act of love throughout The Book Thief.

My favorite act of love in the story is when Hans Hubermann teaches Liesel to read. He comes every night to read to Liesel to sooth her from her nightmare. He also teaches her to write words in the basement. This illustrates that Hans really cares about Liesel, even if he isn’t her real father. He helps Liesel cope her grief of losing her brother and mother, and help her move forward in life. Hans loves Liesel, and Liesel loves Hans. I think Liesel has the strongest relationship with Hans in The Book Thief. My favorite character is also Hans because he is such a loving father.

I think that one of the best examples of love between two characters are Max and Liesel. They bond through words and past experinces. Liesel loves Max like a brother. I think this relationship in important because to Liesel, it’s like the brother she couldn’t have. She lost her brother at such a young age, and was extremely bothered by it. Max helped her through hard times during her life, and was
supportive. Liesel also helped Max through his struggle of being a Jewish person in Nazi Germany. Liesel became part of Max’s true family, which was important in those hard times.

My favorite part of love is when Hans spends time to teach Liesel how to read every night. Liesel has nightmare every night, so he teaches her how to read in the midnight. His purpose is not only makes her more knowledgeable, but also to accompany her. This shows that Hans really cares about Liesel. He knows that Liesel has a deep wound because of her dead brother, missing mother and father. He adores Liesel even more than his own children. His love full fills Lisel’s wound, which makes her happy to live in the new family. “With a smile like that, you don’t need eyes.” This is my favorite quote in the story. Though Hans is not Liesel’s true father, he treat Liesel as her true daughter.

In the novel, there are severl examples of act of love. My instance is that Rosa said, “There’s a reason Max got sick down there, and I can tell you one thing, girL, I’m not letting you get sick.”(Pg443) From this quote, I see that Rosa really care about Liesel’s health. It does not seem to be a big deal, but I realize Rosa expresses her love to Liesl when she says it. Sometime,I also can feel the extraordinary warmth when my mom remind me to wear extra clothes in the winrer day. Therefore, in my conclusion, I think
“Love” exists everywhere, and from every actions.

Throughout the novel, I think the most powerful act of love is when Hans Hubermann publicly gives a piece of bread to a Jewish prisoner who was marching by. For Hans, he does it without thinking. He feels it’s the right thing to do. We can see that what he does is truly from his heart, expressing the real him without any hiding and modification. Besides, this act also has a great influence on Rudy and Liesel. They continue giving bread to the Jewish men since they think it is the best thing they can possibly do to help other people. I love it because it shows how powerful and influential an act of love can be.

In this book, the act of “love” stands as an important element. This act of “love” is shown in various places, and among them, I think the Ilsa’s act of love towards Liesel is the best example to show the element. Ilsa lets Liesel to read in her library, and even Liesel insults and makes her disrespectful, Ilsa keep provides Liesel what she wants. Ilsa closes her eyes to Liesel’s commitment, gives her cookies, and presents many books to Liesel. I would be hard, even mature people, to forgive a child’s insult towards his or her personal pain. However, Ilsa forgives Liesel and even gives up what she possess. Therefore, I think Ilsa’s limitless love towards Liesel should be the best example for the acts of love within the story.

Throughout the novel, there are many acts of love. And the love that most amazed me was the relation between Max and Liesel. Liesel may have been educated to hate Jewish people at school, but towards Max she showed no sign of hatred, and a heart full of love.
The friendly love between Max and Liesel was my favorite type of love in the novel because Liesel cares about Max, and worries about him too. She worried about Max when the air raid strikes, she cares about Max when she rushed home and found that Max wasn’t in the basement. I believe to love someone is to care for them. And Liesel fully demonstrates her love towards Max which I found was the most beautiful love after all.

Personally, I think the greatest act of love in the book thief is when Liesel gives Max the thirteen presents and reads to him while he is sick. It really emphasized their sibling like relationship. Liesel showed deep concern for Max’s life as if it were her own brother. Reading for him every night, and bringing him presents showed her refusal to give up on him. Their relationship in general expressed how two very different people can share a bond so strong that nothing can come between them.

For me, the greatest love is between Liesle and Hans. Hans has stayed with Liesel for countless night to make her calm and read with her and slept in an arm chair until morning. We all know how sleeping in an arm chair is uncomfortable compared to sleeping in a bed. I believe, for Liesle, Hans is her father. They do not have the tie of blood but love connects them.

Yeah, how come no one speaks of Rudy’s love towards Liesel even though it is the most obvious one? Could it be because that the hidden love unspoken in the story be more lovable than the others? Or perhaps it is just personal ideas, opinions? Well I’m here to save Rudy.

Rudy’s love towards Liesel sort of changes a little bit throughout the story. At first when the Young Rudy meets Liesel and immediately gets interested. And from “interested” it slowly changes to “love, adore, and something that you would do anything to protect”. Rudy’s ways of showing his passionate love also changes as he grows more mature, more intelligent, and more responsible. He no longer asks innocently for a kiss. He uses actions, protections, and speaches to show his love.

Now I think this is a great act of love because at that time, many people were starving, many people could only help their own, and not others. But Rudy helped Liesel and asked for nothing back (Okay maybe a kiss or two) but at his age, 11or12, it would be rare for such thing to happen. Children of his age often think only of their own and haven’t learned to care much about others’ feelings. Therefore they usually give up the first time a person rejects them, or be stubburn and not get any creative. However, for Rudy to love a person so deeply and royally, trying his best to assit Liesel on many ordeals that she’s been through, at that period of time, it truly touches me and has made me hope so much that they will kiss at the end…

I think the best act of love portrayed is the loving relationship that Liesel and Hans have. Hans shows his love in a couple of different ways. One of the ways is he teaches Liesel to read. Every night they would read together even though Hans had trouble reading himself. Another example of an act of love was when Hans had taught Liesel to roll cigarettes. Hans would also show his love when he would comfort Liesel at night when she had her night mares. Some nights he would just sit there and not even talk to Liesel, but sat there because he wanted Liesel to feel comfortable. To me these were the strongest acts of love.

One of the most touching acts of love in the novel wasn’t really love, per se, but a simple gesture of compassion; this was when the British pilot had crashed his plane in Molching, and Rudy took a teddy bear out of his tool box and placed it on the man. This gesture was very small, but I found it to be one of the kindest things that anyone could do under such circumstances. It was a way to comfort the pilot in his last seconds of life before he was taken away by Death. This really shows Rudy’s growth as a more sympatheic person, although ironically, a similar enemy plane would bomb Himmel Street and kill Rudy later in the novel.

The best act of love in my opinion would be between Max and Liesel. At first, Max was just a friend to liesel and they love each other as a family. Liesel was showed more anxiety for Max when he got sick because she visited him in the basement more than anyone else. Max wrote “The Word Shaker” after Liesel and indicates that their relationship will always bond no matter what gets in their path. When Liesel found Max after his absence, she was reluctant to leave him even though she was beaten badly by the German army. Most importantly, when I read the quote “They hugged and fell on the floor”, it made me think that Max and Liesel actually love each other.

Throughout the novel, there are many acts of love. However, for the best one, I would say Hans Hubermann’s love toward Liesel. Hans teaches Liesel how to read. Reading is one of Liesel’s most powerful skill, and the only joy in her life. Also, everytime Liesel awakes from her bed screaming at the dream, Hans is always there for her, and he embraces her. From the acts of Hans Hubermann toward Liesel, I could feel the love of parents even though his not her real parent, and the love of parents is not something you can easily achieve, it’s nothing like love from your friends, neighbours, teacher, etc. Briefly, in my opinion, the love of parents is the best love.

In the Book thief love is a recurring theme as love is showed in many different relationships. Imo the strongest relationship based on love is probably between Liesel and Hans and Liesel and Max. Although these two relationships are very important I find the relationship between Liesel and Rudy more interesting. It seems as if both are growing closer and closer together. Liesel at one point was about to kiss Rudy (when they were in Rudy’s Dad’s shop) but for some reason didn’t do it. Also throughout the novel Rudy continues to ask for a kiss from Liesel but is always rejected. Another thing that made me laugh was that Liesel couldn’t stop imagining Rudy naked and even though she didn’t wan’t to think of it, something inside kind of did. When Liesel wanted to give Rudy something for Christmas she arrived at his door with nothing in her hands, and at this point I was thinking that she was going to give Rudy a Kiss. My favorite act of Love was probably when Rudy jumped into the ice cold river and fetched Liesel’s book, I think this was very courageous and noble of Rudy. I was actually expecting that Liesel would give Rudy a kiss but for some reason she didn’t. I think that if both end up surviving the war they will definitely get together. These two characters seem as if they are made for each other.

There are various acts of love in the novel. But in my opinion, the most touching one should be Hans slaped Liesel. It’s defenitly that Hans loves Liesel a lot. He doesn’t want Liesel gets hurt. However, the situation is so cruel that he had to hurt Liesel to save her. Liesel felt grievance because she had to salute to her enermy, but Hans didn’t feel good neither. It’s hard to image how’s the feeling likes when people have to hurt their favorite people. “Are we still friends?”(p11)
One simple question indicates that Hans worried if Liesel hates him or not. This is fatherly love. For his lovely daughter, he will do anything that he can, eventhough he has to hurt her by himself.

Another good act of love is between Ilsa and Liesel. Ilsa treat Liesel like her daughter. “When you came back, I should have been angry, but i wasn’t. I could hear you the last time, but I decide to leave you alone.”(p369) In the letter that Ilsa gave to Liesel, Ilsa wasn’t angry, eventhough Liesel’s words touched her on a tender spot.Everytime Liesel and Rudy steeling at her home, she prepares the cookies. After Liesel felt sorry for what she had done, Ilsa came to her hourse to mollifying her. “Inside was not a story, but a line paper…’And please,’ Ilsa Hermann advised her,’don’t punish yourself, like you said you would. Don’t be like me, Liesel.’”(p523~524) Ilsa dont want to see that Liesel takes the same disastrous road. Overall, Ilsa loves Liesel a lot.

I liked the part where Liesel gave Max the 13 presents when he was sick. You could see their relationship building in a sibling sort of way and when he got sick it really came out that Liesel cared a lot for him and tried her best to make him wake up by giving him presents. The fact that she had no money but still managed to get presents by putting meaning into everyday objects was really interesting.

I think the greatest love is between Max and Liesel. When Max is sick and has a long “sleep”, Liesel takes care of him. She gives him thirteen meaningful presents and reads to him everyday. Her love towards Max is indescribable. When Max leaves the Hans’ family, Liesel prays for Max safety. She thinks of Max everyday and hopes he is being good.

There are many acts of love in The Book Thief. In my opinion, writing books to Liesel is the most inspiring act of love. Although Max can not write very well, he writes two books for Liesel. First, Max illustrates that the standover man is not a man; it is Liesel who stays with him when he is weak in bed. In addition, Max writes the book The Word Shaker to show that he really wants to stay with Liesel, together to fight the Nazi. These books points out that Max considers that Liesel is his family.

Many feelings vary in The Book Thief and in my opinion, the relationship between Hans Hubermann and Liesel is the most loving and caring in the whole book. The fact that she isn’t Hans biological daughter makes it even more powerful because it seems like they have the perfect father daughter friendship. Hans looks out for Liesel and Liesel looks up to Hans. The most powerful act would deffinately be when Liesel yells, she hates fuhrer, and hans slapps her in the face and tells her never to say it in public. This is tho most difficult way to show he loves her, and he just wants to make sure that nothing would happen to her. He was scared someone would hear and take her away. Maybe hitting Liesel was the only way to show how serious Hans was being?

There are many acts of love throughout this novel. I think one of the greatest acts of love would be the time Hans gives a piece of bread to a Jewish person during the parade. Hans completely forgets the danger he will be get into by giving bread to a Jewish person. It is the conscience and the love of Jewish people force him to do the such dangerous thing in the circumstance. I think it is a really touching and profound moment which illustrates the love of Hans toward Jewish people.

There are many acts of love in the story. Many of the types of act we can relate to. Such as the type of love between Hubermanns and Liesel, or the type of love between Max and Liesel. However, I think Rudy and Liesel shares a different type of love which I think is the most outstanding story. Their type of love is among many things. Two of them are best friends and lovers. Only if they kissed, their relation would change, but that kiss from Liesel which Rudy never get is the boundary. Ever since the beginning of the book, Rudy constantly demand a kiss from Liesel. It shows the eagerness and the pureness of Rudy wanting to get love from Liesel. On the other hand, Liesel always loved Rudy as well; in contrast, it is showed by the rejecting Rudy’s kiss. If Liesel really want to reject that kiss, Liesel would not be so close to Rudy like she did. However, Rudy and Liesel get closer from every little things they do together, such as stealing, and playing soccer. It is the little acts which shows the love between Rudy and Liesel. Only if they kissed, would things be different between them?
